The new memorial plaque

Joh. Balthasar Neumann moved into the Oberfrankfurt farm in 1724, which he had acquired from Prince-Bishop Christoph Franz von Hutten . Here worked on the designs for various new buildings in the residential city. He had a viewing platform built on the roof terrace of the property. This was called " Belvedere " or popularly "Neumann pulpit". A platform on the roof of his house gave him an overview of his Würzburg building projects. Balthasar Neumann died on August 19, 1753 in the Oberfrankfurter Hof. A memorial plaque for the architect was attached to the house. During the bombing raid on Würzburg on March 16, 1945 , the historic courtyard was so badly damaged by bombs that it had to be blown up in 1950 because of the risk of collapse. In 1955/56 a new building was built on which the pulpit and the preserved portal of the courtyard were incorporated. The "Balthasar-Neumann-Stube" was set up as an event room on the top floor. The pulpit and portal were later entered in the Bavarian list of monuments. The memorial plaque was renewed.

Building

The roof terrace with wrought-iron railing and the raised pillar structure with stairs in the Baroque style of the 18th century are under monument protection ; likewise the round arched portal of the Hof Oberfrankfurt, rebuilt in 1955/56, with weapon reliefs in the spandrels from the 18th century. These components were built into a new building from 1955/56.
