The Neumarkt mill is a listed building of a water mill in the city of Merseburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The building is located in the eastern part of Merseburg city center, on the western bank of the Saale , on the east side of the street Am Neumarkttor at the address Am Neumarkttor 3 .

Architecture and history

The location of the building has been used as a mill location since 1289, when the hostage flowed into the Saale at this point . At that time there were two watermills in the possession of the Merseburg cathedral chapter , the Obere Mühle (today Rischmühle) and the Lower Mühle (today Neumarkmühle). The name Neumarkmühle probably emerged over time due to its location on Am Neumarkt street . The first documentary mention took place in 1283. Today's building shows simple forms of the Renaissance , especially on the portal. In the 14th century, the water mill became the property of a Herr von Tannenberg. The watermill can be proven in 1590 in the possession of the city council. The water mill was owned by the Duke Christian's family from 1677 to 1738. An inscription plaque on the building indicates a comprehensive renovation at the instigation of Duke Christian I in 1679. The basement of the building is baroque and has an inscription referring to 1705. In the upper part, the building is partly built in half-timbered construction.

In the local register of monuments , the mill is listed as a monument under registration number 094 20107 .
