Neva Raphaello

Neva Raphaello (* 1915 in Sintra (Portugal), † 1975 in England ) was a British jazz and blues singer of Portuguese origin.

Live and act

Raphaello came to Evesham with her parents as a child . Soon she sang in a church choir and learned to play the piano. During the 1930s and early 1940s she was active as a singer with local bands in Birmingham . In the late 1940s she worked with , with whom she also recorded, Humphrey Lyttelton . She then worked with the Christie Brothers Stompers and Chris Barber, and toured Europe (with whom she also recorded) in 1951 with Graeme Bell . Only in 1952 did she move to London, where she performed again with Lyttelton, before working frequently with the Dutch Swing College Band on the continent since 1953 . She also briefly led her own band and continued to perform with Freddy Randall , Sandy Brown and Graham Stewart. In 1961 she was heard with the Clyde Valley Stompers . Then she moved back to the Midlands , where she performed with the trio of Johnny Ocken and bands from Birmingham, but also ran a restaurant.
