Backgrounds and style

After Roudette split from his band and label, "New Age" was the first single he released alone. The lyrics were written by Roudette and Guy Chambers , who also co-produced the song. Roudette said he was the one who believed in him and that he contacted Roudette via MySpace after Chambers had attended a Mattafix concert a few years earlier. Marlon Roudette told The Sun that the song was about moving on and not giving up.

Plattentests.de described New Age as follows: "The ballad" New age "dances over the piano, sucks its rhythm section out of the PC, while little synthetic shooting stars fly by and meet the deceased Mathou, whose" You'll never walk alone "in" New age "reincarnated.", Allmusic classified it in the genres of rock and pop, Rober Copsey from Digital Spy described it as "[...] a piano-led love song that wouldn't sound out of place on a Bruno Mars album until he puts his own trip-poppy twist on it for the chorus ".
