Mattafix was a British producer duo founded in 2003 in London by musicians Marlon Roudette and Preetesh Hirji .
history
Roudette and Hirji had met in a recording studio. In addition to hip-hop , other influences of their music can be found in blues , jazz , reggae , bhangra , calypso .
Marlon Roudette was born in London, but grew up on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent from the age of ten, Preetesh Hirji, however, always lived in London, his parents come from India. Roudette is the stepson of Neneh Cherry . His father is Cameron McVey , one of the busiest music producers in London . The name Mattafix comes from a slang expression common in St. Vincent (The Matter has been fixed), which roughly means "everything is in order".
Mattafix's international breakthrough came with the debut single Big City Life , which was promoted on the BBC's radio program by radio DJs Pete Tong, Zane Low and Jo Wiley. In August 2005 it reached number 15 on the UK charts. At the end of September 2005 the single was released in Germany and reached the top of the charts on January 20, 2006. Big City Life was also represented as a song at the 2006 World Cup in Germany .
In autumn 2005 the band released their debut album, Signs of a Struggle . In 2006 Mattafix was nominated for an Amadeus Austrian Music Award . In addition, Mattafix received the amber nightingale prize as the main winner on September 1st, 2006 at the international jazz festival in Sopot in the Forest Opera.
In 2007 they addressed the Darfur conflict in the single Living Darfur , the video of which was shot in a refugee camp in Chad .
Roudette has been working solo since 2011.
