New Song are an American Christian music band from Valdosta , Georgia .

Band history

The band was formed in 1981 by Eddie Carswell, Billy Goodwin, Eddie Middleton and Bobby Apon. In the first few years they released albums regularly and changed labels several times. By the mid-1990s they had established themselves in the field of Christian pop music and were an integral part of the program of the relevant radio stations. The separation of Middleton and Apon did not change anything. From 1993 onwards numerous line-up changes followed, only Carswell and Goodwin were consistently part of the band.

Shortly before their 20th anniversary, New Song took another step forward. With the Christmas carol The Christmas Shoes they had a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time , the song also came to number 1 on the adult contemporary charts. The accompanying album Sheltering Tree brought them a place among the best pop albums for the first time.

The following two albums also made it onto the Billboard 200 . Between 2003 and 2009 things got a little quieter for the band. During this time, a live, a best-of and another Christmas album were released. It wasn't until the spring of 2010 that New Song returned to the album charts with Give Yourself Away .
