New Wave of New Wave

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New Wave of New Wave (NWoNW) is a term coined by the British music press in the 1990s to describe a sub-genre of the alternative . NWoNW bands were mostly made up of young, white working-class men who played guitar-based rock music . The movement was very short lived and many bands were later associated with the more commercially successful Britpop .

The term New Wave of New Wave referred to the obvious parallels between this emerging music scene in the early 1990s and the New Wave - or punk scene in the 1970s and 1980s . NWoNW bands often made loud political comments and were critical of UK Prime Minister John Major , but had no set political ideology .

The NWoNW scene has often been associated with the use of the drug speed , which is why the band members were often described as skinny and pale.
