Place in Newcastle West

Newcastle West ( Irish : An Caisleán Nua Thiar ) is a city in County Limerick in the south-west of the Republic of Ireland .

The place

Newcastle West is located in the south-west of County Limerick near the Counties Kerry and Cork and is the second largest city in the county after Limerick City . It is located on the River Arra, a tributary of the River Deel , and developed around a castle built by the Templar Order from 1184 , the remains of which (“ruins”) are in a relatively good state of preservation. The population of the place was determined by the Census 2016 with 6619 people. Not least because of its favorable location on a national road and close to a region that is very popular with tourists, the city has benefited from Ireland's economic boom since the late 1980s and the population of the place increased continuously by more than 80% between 1991 and 2016.

Transport links

Newcastle West is located between Limerick City and Tralee at the junction of the N21 into County Kerry with the R515, which leads east via Charleville to Tipperary . A junction of this regional road leads to the N20 to Cork City at Buttevant . To the rail transport in Ireland Newcastle West is no longer connected.
