Newcleus
Newcleus are an American electro and hip hop group that was founded in 1981 by Ben "Cozmo D" Cenac, initially under the name Positive Messenger , before being renamed Newcleus . The other members are Cozmo D's wife Yvette "Lady E", Nique and her later husband Bob "Chilly B" Crafton. What was unusual was that the musicians played their instruments themselves, which was rare in hip-hop groups.
Career
On their first demo tape , the later success Jam On Revenge was also included, more for fun , in which they played their voices faster, which became their later trademark. This song impressed her future producer Joe Webb and it became her first single in 1983. In 1984 the song Jam On It was released . The melody of their song Automan from the same year was used as the main melody in the hit Rhythm Is a Dancer by the Eurodance project Snap! known.
The original Newcleus sound of the first two records was characterized by neatly arranged music sequences that often barely audible worked in the background with stereo effects.
After the two stylistically similar LPs Jam On Revenge and Space Is The Place , an LP Next Generation was released in 2000 , but it did not come from Newcleus (quote from Coszmo D: "That album is as bogus as a 12 dollar bill!") And also contains the Huxtable House Party published as a maxi-single (quote Cozmo D: "I would NEVER write a song that was corny enough to call Huxtable House Party!").
Robert "Chilly B" Crafton III died of a stroke on February 23, 2010 at the age of only 47.
