Newhouse is a ghost town in Beaver County in the state of Utah .

The first silver deposits were discovered on the western slope of the San Francisco Mountains before 1870 , in 1870 the Cactus Mine was found on the edge of the Wah Wah Valley , which was exploited with little success in the following 30 years. The supply of water and fuel caused great problems, so that it was not until 1892 that the first ore smelting facility was built near what would later become the town. It was not until 1900, when the mine was taken over by entrepreneur Samuel Newhouse , that professional exploitation of the surrounding mines began. As with other mining cities, more and more permanent constructions replaced the original tent city, in addition to the residential quarters of the city named after the owner, numerous facilities for the maintenance of the mine workers were built. Since the serving of alcohol was forbidden on Newhouse's estates , a saloon was built around two kilometers south of the city. State Route 21 reached the city in 1916, but the city was already in decline after the Cactus Mine closed in 1910. Many of the buildings were dismantled and rebuilt in Milford, around 50 kilometers away . The café that served the few remaining miners burned down in 1921.

Filming for Die Karawane in 1922 and 1923 brought the now completely deserted place for the last time.

Today, Newhouse can be reached from State Route 21 via an approximately four-kilometer dirt track, some buildings can still be seen.
