The Newstead helmet is a Roman parade helmet and mask dating from 80 to 100 AD that was found in Newstead , Roxburghshire , Scotland, in 1905 . Together with the Ribchester helmet , it is the type helmet of the Ribchester-Newstead class.

The Newstead helmet is one of the mask helmets . It is made of beaten iron and was found in 1905 on the site of the former Roman fortress near Newstead. The helmet bell is worked with a curly hairstyle at the back of the head . The mask is made separately and was attached to the helmet with a leather strap. The remains of a silver or tin coating can be seen on the surface of the helmet . The neck shield of the helmet is also decorated and the name of the wearer is given by stamped letters.
