Ng Chee Meng ( Chinese  黄志明 , Tamil இங் சீ மெங் ; * August 8, 1968 ) is a former lieutenant general of the armed forces of Singapore and a politician of the People's Action Party (PAP) in Singapore , who was among other things commander of the air force ( Republic of Singapore Air Force ) and from 2013 to 2015 Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Singapore. He has been a member of parliament since 2015 and has been a minister several times. He has been Minister in the Prime Minister's Office since 2018.

Life

Military career

Ng Chee Meng came after the visit of Chinese High School and the Hwa Chong Junior College in December 1986 in the Singapore Armed Forces SAF (Singapore Armed Forces) and completed a degree in electrical engineering at the US Air Force Academy , which he in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Electrical Engineering). In the following years he found numerous uses as an officer and was also a graduate of Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College in 1999 . He was commander ( Commanding Officer ) of on the military airport Paya Lebar Air Base stationed 144th squadron (144 Squadron "Blackite") , and Head of Planning of the Air Force. A postgraduate course in the subject of International Relations at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University closed it in 2003 with a Master of Arts (MA International Relations) from. He was the commander of Changi Air Base and director of the Armed Forces Joint Operations Department.

On 10 December 2009 sparked Major General Ng Chee Meng his older brother Major General Ng Chee Khern as commander of the Air Force ( Republic of Singapore Air Force ) , and has held this position until March 25, 2013, after which Major-General Hoo Cher Mou became his successor. He himself took over as Lieutenant General on March 27, 2013 as the successor to Lieutenant General Neo Kian Hong as Chief of Defense Force (CDF) and thus as commander in chief of the armed forces of Singapore SAF (Singapore Armed Forces) . He held this position until he retired from active military service on August 18, 2015 and was then replaced by Lieutenant General Perry Lim . During his tenure as Chief of Defense Force , he ensured that the Singapore armed forces maintained their high level of operational capability while maintaining national security. The Singapore armed forces' restructuring plans were also implemented under his leadership. He has also served on the boards of various public and private organizations such as Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, Defense Science and Technology Agency ( DSTA ) and JTC Corporation .

Political career

On September 11, 2015, Ng Chee Meng became a member of parliament for the People's Action Party (PAP) in the Group Representation Constituency (Group Representation Constituency) Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC for the first time and has represented this constituency since then. Shortly after his election, he took over his first government office in the cabinet of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and served between October 1, 2015 and October 31, 2016, both as Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and as Acting Minister for School Education. Subsequently, from November 1, 2016 to April 30, 2018, he was Second Transport Minister and Minister for School Education. Since May 1, 2018, he has been a Minister in the Prime Minister's Office . In addition, on May 22, 2018, he replaced Chan Chun Sing as General Secretary of the National Trade Union Congress NTUC (National Trades Union Congress) .

Like his older brother Ng Chee Khern, who was Major General Commander of the Air Force between 2006 and 2009, their younger brother Ng Chee Peng is also a high-ranking officer and, as Rear Admiral, was Commander of the Navy ( Republic of Singapore Navy ) from 2011 to 2014 .
