Niamtougou is a city in Togo with 12,444 inhabitants in 1982 and probably 24,000 inhabitants in 2008. It is located in the Kara region , 25 km north of the regional capital of the same name, Kara . Niamtougou is the administrative center of Doufelgou Prefecture .

The city is made up of six towns, Niamtougou, Koka, Baga, Ténéga, Yaka and Agbandé. These communities belong to different languages of the Gur language group. While in Niamtougou, Koka, Baga and Ténéga Nawdm is spoken, in Yaka and Agbandé the majority speaks Lama .
economy
The important market square of the city is in Niamtougou. In addition to the market in the southeastern city of Kétao , the Sunday Niamtougous market is an important trading center in the Kara region. The prefecture's administration is located in the district of Koka. To the north of the city, in Baga, is Niamtougou Airport , which is the largest airport in the country after Gnassingbé Eyadéma Airport in the capital Lomé . It is mainly used by the Togolese Air Force as well as the government and other private individuals. The most important road connection is the national road 1 , which runs in north-south direction and crosses all of Togo.
