Nibelungen Run 2016 starting field

The Nibelungenlauf is a sporting event that takes place once a year in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Worms . With over 2,000 participants and 10,000 visitors, some of whom come from neighboring countries, the event is of national importance.

development

The sporting event took place for the first time in 2004 and is divided into a "Nibelungen run" over 21 or 10 km, a "women run", a "school run", an "over 60 run" (5 km each) and a walk for walkers over 10 km . In 2015 there were 2036 runners from 38 nations, which means that 27,000 participants have been counted since the first run, which took place in 2004. Organizational manager is the entrepreneur and Ironman participant Dieter Holz from Worms .

Route

The route leads through the city center of Worms and the Bürgerweide to the south and outside of it . Start and finish is the fairground. The route is flat, paved throughout and leads past various sights, such as the Nibelungen Museum , the Luther Monument and the Hagenden Monument .

The best times of internationally known athletes were set by Tinka Uphoff (when she took part in the 21 km run in 1:20:50 in 2015) and Jan Frodeno (in his 10 km run in 0:31:17 in 2012). Uphoff also took part in the Nibelungen Run in 2016, but was unable to top her own record due to illness-related complaints. In 2016, Pitt Schneider from Luxembourg won the 21 km run in 1:17:06 and was only just able to match the course record of Wormser Santino Miskovic of 1:16:24, which he did not start in 2016.

Sponsors

The sporting event receives funding from main sponsors such as Renolit , Rowe Mineralölwerk , Entega and other, partly locally based companies.
