Nicholas Robert "Nick" Jennings (born December 15, 1966 in London ) is a British computer scientist .

Jennings studied computer science at the University of Exeter and received her PhD in 1992 from Queen Mary College, University of London with Abe Mamdani (Joint Intentions as a Model of Multi-Agent Cooperation). He then became a lecturer, reader and, in 1997, professor at Queen Mary College.

He deals with agent-oriented software development and multi -agent systems , which he also led to real applications, including in business, sensor and telecommunications networks, energy supply, production control and cybersecurity. He is one of the most highly cited scientists in his field.

From 1999 he was a professor at the University of Southampton , where he was Regius Professor of Computer Science from 2014 . From 2010 to 2015 he was the UK Government's Chief Scientific Officer for National Security. In 2016 he became Vice Provost for Research at Imperial College London and Professor of AI.

In 1999 he received the IJCAI Computers and Thought Award and he received the ACM Autonomous Agents Research Award. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering , AAAI , IEEE and the British Computer Society . He is CB . He has been a member of the Academia Europaea since 2008 .

He was the founding editor of the International Journal of Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems.
