Nicholas Allan Roy Wilson, Lord Wilson of Culworth Kt PC QC (born May 9, 1945 ) is a British lawyer and a judge at the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom since 2011 .

Life

Wilson graduated after school to study law at Worcester College of the University of Oxford . After completing his studies, he was admitted to the bar ( Inns of Court ) of Inner Temple in 1967 and then took up a position as a barrister . For his legal services he was appointed Crown Attorney ( Queen's Counsel ) in 1987.

After twenty years of legal work Wilson moved at the same time in 1987 in the Judicial Service and was initially Recorder (municipal judge) before he April 20, 1993 the judge in the chamber for family matters ( Family Division ) on the for England and Wales competent High Court of Justice was appointed . This judge held Wilson, who was beaten at the same time to the Knight Bachelor in 1993 and thus had the suffix "Sir" until October 3, 2005. In 1993 he was also so-called "Bencher" of the Bar Association of the Inner Temple.

After completing his judicial activity at the High Court of Justice, he was appointed judge ( Lord Justice of Appeal ) on October 3, 2005 at the Court of Appeal , the court of appeal responsible for England and Wales, where he worked until May 26, 2011. He was also appointed Privy Councilor in 2005.

On May 26, 2011, Wilson was appointed to the Supreme Court Justice of the United Kingdom to succeed Mark Saville, Baron Saville of Newdigate . At the same time he received thereby the courtesy title of Lord Wilson of Culworth for life .
