Nick Heilborn (born May 27, 1981 in Jena ) is a former German rally driver .

Career

First successes

Nick Heilborn contested his first rally in April 2015 (45th ADAC Roland Rallye, Nordhausen ) in a BMW 328i he had previously built . Although he had no motorsport experience to date, he already achieved 3 class wins in regional rallies in the further course of the season. In the 2016 season he was able to achieve 3 more class wins and 4 second places and at the same time gained his first experience in two races for the German Rally Championship , which he finished in first and second place in his class.

Championships

For the 2017 season, he had his vehicle technically converted into a BMW M3 and competed in a total of 14 rallies with it. After 9 class wins and 3 podium positions, paired with 2 failures due to technical defects, he was able to win the Thuringian rally championship, the Saxon rally championship and the ADMV rally championship and thus achieve his greatest sporting success to date.

He also achieved a class win when he took part in an international rally for the first time, the 2017 Lausitz Rally in Boxberg / OL.In 2018, Nick Heilborn focused on defending the Saxony and ADMV titles. With 3 national A rallies, an international run and four Rallye 70 events, the ADMV rally championship, also unofficially known as the "East German Championship", is the most demanding regional series in Germany. The Saxon Rally Championship is also known in short succession as the most demanding state championship in Germany due to its demanding runs, including the international Lausitz rally. After 9 class wins, paired with 2 technical failures in 13 races, Nick Heilborn succeeded in winning both championships again. This makes him the first driver since the existence of these championships who managed to defend a title he had once earned in the following year. In the Thuringian rally championship, Heilborn did not contest all of the races, but was able to achieve the runner-up title in 2018.

In the 2019 season Heilborn only registered for the ADMV rally championship. In May 2019, however, he announced that he was withdrawing from the championship for personal reasons and that he would not seek to defend his title again. At the time of his resignation, he was again leading the table.
