Nico Schulz (born August 22, 1973 in Osterburg ) is a German politician ( free voter ) and was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt from 2002 to 2011 .

Life

Nico Schulz attended the Polytechnic High School in Krevese from 1980 to 1990 . In 1992 he graduated from the Markgraf-Albrecht-Gymnasium in Osterburg. From 1992 to 2002 he was an officer in the Bundeswehr . Between 1995 and 1999 he studied business administration at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . In 1999 he graduated with a degree in business administration.

Nico Schulz is a Protestant, married and has three children.

Between 2003 and 2009, Schulz was chairman of the Friends of Schloss Krumke e. V. Since 2007 he has been a board member of the local action group Mittlere Altmark and since 2008 board member of the Altmärkischer Heimatbund. From 2012 to 2017 he was chairman of the Buchholzorgel Friends' Association. Nico Schulz has been chairman of the Stendal district association of the Association of Cities and Towns since 2014 and a member of the Presidium of the Association of Cities and Towns in Saxony-Anhalt since 2015. In 2016 he founded the Osterburger Spendenparlament association, which takes care of supporting welfare and social matters.

Nico Schulz joined the CDU in 1998. From 1999 until his election as mayor in 2011 he was chairman of the CDU local association in Osterburg and a member of the Osterburg city council, from 1999 to 2009 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group and then chairman of the city council until 2011. From 2000 to 2018 Nico Schulz was a member of the CDU state executive. From 2004 to 2017 he held the position of deputy chairman of the CDU district association Stendal and since 2009 he has been a member of the Stendal district council . Schulz came into conflict with the CDU district association in 2017 because he clearly criticized the CDU-Stendal election scandal from 2014 and called for an offensive internal party investigation and analysis. As a result, he was not re-elected to the district executive in 2017. With an election result of 75%, Nico Schulz became mayor of the Hanseatic city of Osterburg in 2011. In 2018 he was confirmed for another term of office with an election result of 85%. Because of the conflict with the CDU-Stendal, Nico Schulz founded the Pro Altmark voter association for the 2019 district election, with which he immediately achieved the second-best result (17%). In September 2019 he left the CDU and applied for membership of the FREE VOTERS in January 2020.

Since 2002 Nico Schulz was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. In 2002, 2006 and 2011 he was elected as a direct candidate for the constituency of Havelberg-Osterburg , most recently with 41.8% of the vote. In the state parliament he was most recently chairman of the committee for federal and European affairs as well as the media and the audit committee. When he took office as mayor, he had to resign his state parliament mandate on November 17, 2011, as it is not compatible with an active civil servant status according to Section 34 of the State of Saxony-Anhalt's law on representatives.
