Nicolás Bravo Rueda

Nicolás Bravo Rueda , (born September 10, 1786 in Chichihualco, Guerrero (Mexico) , † April 22, 1854 ) was a Mexican military and politician.

Life

Bravo Rueda fought in the Mexican War of Independence (1810-1821) on the side of José María Morelos in the south of the country, but was captured in 1817 and only released in 1820.

After the proclamation of the Plan of Iguala by Agustín de Iturbide , he moved with the Army of the Three Guarantees a September 27, 1821 in Mexico City.

He opposed Iturbides' coronation as emperor . After his abdication, Bravo became Vice President under President Guadalupe Victoria . As a supporter of the dictator Antonio López de Santa Anna , he briefly assumed the office of president three times. During the war between Mexico and the United States , Bravo was in command of the Chapultepec Military Academy. In the battle of Chapultepec he was captured by the US troops and then withdrew from politics.

Bravo was a Freemason , between 1823 and 1827 he was Grand Master of the lodge ( Scottish Rite ) in Mexico, which was also very influential in politics .
