Nicola Caputo (politician)

Nicola Caputo (born March 4, 1966 in Teverola , Caserta province ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico . He was a member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019 .

Life

Caputo has a degree in Economics and Commerce from the University of Naples Federico II . He is a tax advisor and auditor. In 2004 he was elected to the local council of his hometown Teverola for a citizens' list . The following year he was elected to the regional council of Campania for the small Christian Democratic UDEUR . After five years he was re-elected, but this time as a representative of the Partito Democratico (PD).

In the 2014 European elections , he won a seat in the European Parliament as a member of the constituency of Southern Italy . There he sat in the Progressive Alliance of Social Democrats (S&D), was a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and a delegate for relations with the United States.

After leaving the EU Parliament, he became advisor to the Regional President of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca , responsible for Agriculture, Europe and International Affairs in July 2019 . In October 2019 he resigned from the PD to the new party Italia Viva by Matteo Renzi over.
