Vincenzo De Luca (born May 8, 1949 in Ruvo del Monte ) is an Italian politician and president of the Campania region since 2015 .

Career

De Luca grew up in Salerno . After graduating from high school, he studied history and philosophy at the University of Salerno and after completing his studies worked as a high school teacher for philosophy.

As a teenager, De Luca became a member of the Communist Party of Italy (PCI). He later became a party functionary of the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS) and the Left Democrats (DS). De Luca served as Mayor of Salerno from 1993 to 2001 and again from 2006 to 2015. In the 2006 and 2011 elections, he received 75% of the vote. In the XIV. And XV. Legislative period from 2001 to 2008 he was also a member of the Camera dei deputati . Since 2015 he has succeeded Stefano Caldoro as President of the Campania Region.
