from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nicola Conti (* around 1710 in Naples ; † 1754 ibid) was an Italian composer of the Neapolitan school of the late Baroque.

Live and act

Nicola Conti was a student of Francesco Durante and later Kapellmeister at several churches in Naples. Most of his compositional work was intended for ecclesiastical use, although he wrote some operas whose music is considered lost. The oratorio Isacco based on a libretto by Pietro Metastasio , which was premiered in 1741, is considered to be his most important work . Other oratorios in addition to several cantatas , lamentos and motets are La passione di Gesù Cristo (1743), La morte d'Abel (1748) and Per la festività del Santo Natale (1755). In addition, around 100 individual arias originate from his pen.
