Nicola LeFanu
Nicola LeFanu (born April 28, 1947 ) is a British composer .
The daughter of Irish composer Elizabeth Maconchy to 1968 studied from 1965 at St Hilda's College of Oxford University . She continued her education at the Royal College of Music , where she won the Cobbett Prize in 1970 with an oboe quartet . Her ballet Rambert received the Gulbenkian Dance Award in 1972. A Harkness grant in 1973 enabled her to study at Harvard University .
In the 1970s, LeFanu taught at St Paul's Girls' School and Morley College , where she directed musical theater. She later taught composition at King's College London , and from 1994 to 2008 she was a music professor at the University of York . She composed more than sixty works, including several operas, instrumental concerts and other orchestral works, chamber and vocal music and works for solo instruments.
