Nicolae Moldoveanu (composer)

Nicolae Moldoveanu (born February 3, 1922 in Movileni , Galați district , † July 12, 2007 in Sibiu ) was a Romanian composer , conductor and author of church songs.

Career

Moldoveanu appeared as a 16-year-old of the Romanian Orthodox movement Oastea Domnului ( Army of God in). The movement was founded in 1923 on the initiative of Pastor Iosif Trifa . Having joined the ecclesiastical movement, Moldoveanu composed numerous songs based on biblical texts. He composed his first song with his own lyrics in 1940 which was published by the Army of God in Cluj ( Klausenburg ).

1959 - to communist times Romania - Moldoveanu was due to his compositions to twelve years in Cluj arrested. His first song composed while in custody was in cell 3, entitled "Melodia păci" ( Melody of Peace ). Because the prisoners were repeatedly transferred to other cells, Moldoveanu also met Pastor Richard Wurmbrand .

Since Romania wanted to join the United Nations in 1964 , it was not allowed to have political or religious detainees, and Moldoveanu was released after five years in prison.

Nicolae Moldoveanu composed over 6000 songs, some of them with his own texts, and died at the age of 75 in Sibiu ( Hermannstadt ).
