Nicolas Clément (born January 12, 1779 in Dijon , † November 21, 1841 in Paris ) or Nicolas Clément-Désormes (from 1820) was a French chemist and physicist .
Live and act
Nicolas Clément was one of the discoverers of the element iodine (working with Charles-Bernard Desormes ). In 1806 he succeeded in the first chemical analysis of the main component of lapis lazuli . In 1819 he developed a method for determining the specific heat capacity of gases (with Desormes).
The method for calculating the speed of sound in gases with the coefficient named after him also goes back to him; together with Desormes, he described the aerodynamic paradox in 1826 .
He worked closely with Desormes, founded a chemical factory with him in 1804 and was his son-in-law.
