Nicolas Marchant
Nicolas Marchant († 1678 in Paris ) was a French pharmacist and botanist .
Live and act
Nicolas Marchant studied medicine at the University of Padua and received his degree there. He was director of the gardens of Duke Jean-Baptiste Gaston de Bourbon, duc d'Orléans in Blois and was one of the first members of the Académie des Sciences, founded in 1666 .
His son Jean Marchant († November 11, 1738), also a botanist, became a member of the academy on June 18, 1678 and worked at the Jardin du Roi .
Honor taxon
Jean Marchant named the genus Marchantia of the Marchantiaceae plant family in his father's honor . Carl von Linné later took over this name.
