Nicole Marianne Grünewald (born February 1, 1973 in Cologne ) is a German communications scientist and medium-sized entrepreneur. She has been President of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry since the beginning of 2020 .

Life

Grünewald is the daughter of a religion teacher and a corporate lawyer, attended the Archbishop's School of Our Lady in Cologne and studied journalism / communication science , English and German studies as well as sociology and psychology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . During her studies, she already had her first job in advertising agencies. In 1998, together with Jörg Lentz, she founded the advertising agency “The Vision Company” in Cologne, which she now runs as the sole managing partner (as of 2020).

Ten years after founding the agency, she completed her doctorate in communications science at the University of Münster in 2008 with a thesis on branding in politics using the example of the SPD .

Grünewald has been volunteering at Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce since 2000, initially with the Wirtschaftsjunioren, then in changing functions. From 2010 to 2015 she was Vice President and initiated the “Women's Business Day” in 2012. She has also been the spokesperson for the SME Network since 2011 and has been a member of the Chamber's General Assembly since 2009. In the 2015 election for President, she lost to Werner Görg in the second ballot .

In the run-up to the election for the 2019 General Assembly, she was a co-initiator of the New Kammer initiative , an alliance of entrepreneurs from the region who campaigned for reforms in the more than 200-year-old institution - the demands included more transparency, faster digitization and a reduction in mandatory contributions For companies. In January 2020 she ran again in the presidential election and was elected by the general assembly as the first female president in the history of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Grünewald has been the City of Cologne's “Economic Ambassador” since 2017. In addition, she is a board member of the Friends and Patrons of Cologne Customs Association and the Leading Women Rhein-Berg.
