Nicolette Mout

Marianne Elisabeth Henriette Nicolette Mout (* 1945 in Wassenaar ) is a Dutch historian; until her retirement in 2010 she was professor at the Institute for History at the University of Leiden .

Life

Nicolette Mout studied history from 1963 to 1968 at the University of Amsterdam and at the Charles University in Prague. In 1968 she received a research grant in Austria. From 1969 to 1970 she was an assistant at the Jewish Museum Amsterdam . This was followed in 1970 as an editor for the humanities at Nijhoff-Verlag in The Hague. From 1975 she was a doctoral candidate at the University of Leiden. After her doctorate, Mout became a lecturer in modern history at the University of Utrecht and later lecturer in Dutch history at the University of Leiden. In 1990 she received an endowed professorship in combination with the chair for Central European Studies and in 1994 she became Professor for Modern History and Central European Studies; In 2010 she retired.

Research and Teaching

Her academic work focused on early modern European history , in particular intellectual and cultural history; History of historiography and Central European history from the early modern period to the present.

Memberships and honors

Nicolette Mout has been a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen) since 1988, a foreign member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a member of the Academia Europaea since 1994 . In 2010 she was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class and in 2016 she became an honorary member of the Society of Historians of the Czech Republic.
