The Low German Theater Braunschweig is the second oldest theater in Braunschweig after the Braunschweig State Theater .

On June 18, 1925, the Braunschweiger Allgemeine Anzeiger reported on the founding of a Low German theater for lovers of which Wilhelm Börker had taken over as director. Börker directed the stage from 1925 to 1938, Helene Evers from 1945 to 1966. After Reimer Hebbeln, Alexander Börger became director of the amateur theater . Legally, the stage is organized as a registered association and recognized by the tax office as non-profit.

In three productions per season with five performances so far have been comedies , comedies and dramas in the Red Room in Braunschweig palace shown. Before that, the stage was located in the “ Die Brücke ” cultural center for decades . The premieres were in September, January and April. In addition, the Low German Theater occasionally made guest appearances in the Braunschweig area.

In August 2014, the stage temporarily suspended its performance for personnel and financial reasons. Game operations were resumed in September 2015 with the production “Dr. med. Job Praetorius ”.

There were 17 performances in the 2016 season, which attracted 1,383 visitors.
