Niederneunkirchen is a former municipality that has belonged to Neunkirchen (Saar) since 1922 . During the independence of Niederneunkirchen, Neunkirchen was also called Oberneunkirchen.

history

Niederneunkirchen was spun off from the municipality of Neunkirchen in the 19th century, according to other information as early as 1799, and included the property of the Stumm brothers in Neunkirchen, namely the Neunkirchen ironworks with the company premises and the associated living quarters, the workers' houses and the Neunkirchen farm. In 1847 there were 27 houses with 183 inhabitants in Niederneunkirchen. The district covered 166 hectares . In 1865 there were 621 residents including the sleeping quarters, and in 1885 there were 856 residents including the sleeping houses.

The separation goes back to the interests of the hut owners, who were now able to appoint the mayor in their independent community, exercise police power, levy community taxes and control the development of the community without always getting into conflicts of interest with the mother community of Neunkirchen.

The Schlawerie settlement belonging to Niederneunkirchen was managed in 1847 with 15 houses and 119 inhabitants. According to a request from the Royal Prussian Government, the local council of Niederneunkirchen decided on March 25, 1890, to withdraw the Schlawerie from its area of responsibility and reintegrate the Schlawerie into the community of Neunkirchen (Oberneunkirchen).

By contract of December 19, 1921, the four communities Kohlhof , Neunkirchen, Niederneunkirchen and Wellesweiler merged into one community, which four days later was granted city rights with effect from April 1, 1922. Within the new town of Neunkirchen, Nieder- and Oberneunkirchen were combined to form the Neunkirchen district. Niederneunkirchen was badly hit by the gasometer explosion on February 10, 1933 and recorded numerous fatalities, injuries and damage to buildings. There was no trace of ten houses and their occupants to be found.
