history

Etching of the Rasemühle with Rasespring in Tiefenbrunn (around 1800), then an excursion restaurant, today part of the Asklepios specialist clinic in Tiefenbrunn

The house was opened in 1903 as the “Provincial Sanatorium for Nervous Rasemühle” for the treatment of “nervous people of all classes”. The "nervously exhausted of the province of Hanover" should be treated there with the aim of preventing the nervousness from developing into a mental illness . It was the first German “people's nerve sanatorium” founded at the height of the fin de siècle nervous system and financed purely by the state.

The concept for planning and realizing the building and the grounds of the mental health center “Rasemühle” envisaged “... avoiding the character of an institution in any direction in order to make the stay in the sanatorium as comfortable and pleasant as possible” . The "character of a family pension" was sought, to which the practiced abolition of gender segregation should also contribute.

In 2005 it was the first hospital in Germany for psychiatry and psychotherapy to receive the certification level "Committed to Excellence" from the German Society for Quality.

The state of Lower Saxony sold eight state hospitals in 2007. The state hospitals of Tiefenbrunn and Göttingen (today Asklepios Fachklinikum Göttingen ) were sold to the Asklepios Kliniken Verwaltungsgesellschaft and have since been part of the newly founded Asklepios Psychiatrie Niedersachsen GmbH.

The profitable Tiefenbrunn State Hospital with an annual turnover of 10.6 million euros was sold for 500,000 euros. Another provider with an offer of 1.4 million euros was left out, which was criticized by a member of the opposition, Uwe Schwarz , in the state parliament.
