Lower Sorbian New Testament (1548)
The Lower Sorbian New Testament (Latin Novum Testamentum Sorabicum ) is a translation of Martin Luther's German translation of the New Testament into Lower Sorbian from 1548.

The manuscript consists of 669 paper pages bound in leather. It contains the full translation of Luther's New Testament.
It was made by Mikławš Jakubica , who was probably a Protestant pastor in the Sorau estate (now in Poland). In addition to Luther's translation, he also used the Latin Vulgate and a Czech model that is now unknown . The text is mainly written in an eastern variety of Lower Sorbian, but with dialectal fluctuations and numerous Czech borrowings.
The book shows clear signs of use. It was rediscovered in 1827 by the Polish Slavist Andrzej Kucharski in the Royal Library in Berlin .
meaning
The manuscript is the oldest, more extensive evidence of a Slavic language in Germany by a native speaker and one of the most important evidence of the Sorbian language. It is the first translation of Luther's New Testament into another language.
Even if the planned printing could not be carried out because of King Ferdinand's ban on printing Protestant writings from 1547, liturgical instructions for use indicate that the manuscript was used liturgically by the author himself as well as by others. The range of this first Sorbian translation of the Bible must, however, be assumed to be very limited, as it was "later disregarded and ignored".
