Niels Bjerregaard

Niels Dietz Bjerregaard (born May 12, 1970 in Virum ) is a former Danish basketball player .

Life

Bjerregaard, a 2.04 meter tall indoor player, made it to the men's team at Værløse Basketball Klub, which competed in the Danish first division. In 1992 he left his home country, studied at the Chaminade University of Honolulu in the United States until 1995 and was a member of their university team.

Following his return to Denmark he played again for Værløse and was Danish champions in the 1995/96 season. He then moved abroad as a professional. In the 1996/97 season Bjerregaard won the Portuguese championship with FC Porto , in 1997/98 he was under contract with TVG Trier in the German basketball league and won the DBB Cup with the Moselans .

From 1998 to 2001 the Dane strengthened the Belgian first division club Athlon Ieper . From 2001 to 2003 he was in the service of the Danish first division club Værløse / Farum, which was renamed in 2002 after restructuring in BF København. In 2002 and 2003 he became Danish champions with the team. In the 2010/11 season Bjerregaard played in the dress of the Værløse Basketball Club once again temporarily in the Danish first division.

In the course of his career, Bjerregaard competed in European Cups with Værløse, Porto, Trier, Ieper and BF København. With Ieper he reached the semi-finals of the Korać Cup in the 2000/01 season .

He was a member of the Danish national team from 1989, was temporarily captain and played with the selection, among other things, qualifying games for European championships.

Bjerregaard was an official at Værløse Basketball Klub as the sporting director.
