Nielsen-BallungsRaum-Newspapers (usually called NBRZ for short ) is an advertising association of the most important regional daily newspapers , which was founded in 1979 and appears in the 13 areas defined by ACNielsen as “ conurbations ”.

The distribution area covers around 47,000 km 2 (that is around 13% of the area of the German federal territory), inhabited by over 33 million people (around 40% of the total population; as of January 1, 2005). The population density there is around 700 people per square kilometer, more than three times as high as in the rest of Germany.

In this area, the NBRZ are by far the largest print advertising medium in Germany, in which around 7.8 million newspapers are sold (Mon - Sat, checked according to IVW II / 2006). That is more than half the circulation of all regional and local daily newspapers in Germany. There are so daily over 26.5 million readers over 14 years reached . That is more than half of all adults in the metropolitan areas and almost a third of all adult German citizens. Together, these have a purchasing power of around 625 billion euros (NBRZ calculation based on GfK base figures 2006).

The purpose of the NBRZ association for advertising customers lies in the considerable savings in costs and effort compared to an individual assignment of the newspaper titles. In addition to the entire NBRZ area, advertisers can also select differently structured partial bookings: NBRZ-Classic, NBRZ-Regio, NBRZ-Vario, NBRZ-Plus and NBRZ-Crossmedia. The NBRZ occupancy can also be expanded to include additional areas to become "NBRZ Plus". In this economic area, up to 35 newspapers (with over 250 individual titles) and title combinations can currently (January 2008) be selected. A title combination usually consists of so-called " newspaper groups " or "newspaper combinations ", often titles from neighboring areas of distribution that cooperate with one another in the advertising business and / or in the editorial area ( takeover of the cover ).

In addition to the print advertising association, the various Internet portals of the Nielsen-BallungsRaum newspapers also cooperate in the online advertising business when booking NBRZ-Crossmedia, mediated by Online Marketing Service GmbH, in which numerous regional newspapers are shareholders.

NBRZ Service GmbH is based in Munich . The managing director is Sven Holsten.
