Niermala Hindori Badrising (born July 4, 1962 in Paramaribo ) is a politician and diplomat from Suriname who was Foreign Minister between 2015 and 2017.

Life

Niermala Hindori Badrising completed her studies at the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and, after graduating in 1987, joined the diplomatic service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She found various uses there and was a foreign policy advisor to several presidents . Between January 2012 and August 2015 she was Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) and during this time also represented the interests of the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank .

After Desi Bouterse was elected and sworn in as President, Niermala Badrising was appointed to the new government of Vice President Ashwin Adhin on August 12, 2015 , who also became ex officio Chairman of the Council of Ministers and thus head of government. She took over as Foreign Minister (Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken) , while Ronni Benschop became Minister of Defense, Mike Noersalim Minister of the Interior and Gillmore Hoefdraad Minister of Finance. In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, she was replaced as Foreign Minister on February 1, 2017 by Yldiz Pollack-Beighle . After leaving the government, she has been accredited as Ambassador to the USA since 2017 and is also a permanent representative to the OAS again.
