The lighthouse Nieuwe Sluis is a listed lighthouse near the peasantry Nieuwesluis in the municipality of Sluis , about three kilometers west of Breskens in the Dutch province of Zeeland .
Building
The octagonal tower is 28.4 meters high and has five floors. The lighthouse is painted black and white and is located on the sea wall at the entrance to the Westerschelde .
history
The tower was planned by the architect Quirinus Harder and built between 1866 and 1867. It is one of the oldest surviving cast iron lighthouses in the Netherlands. During the Second World War, the lighthouse was out of order for some time. On October 3, 2011, operations were finally closed.
