Nigel Olsson (born February 10, 1949 in Wallasey , Merseyside , England ) is a drummer who is best known as a musician in Elton John's band .

Career

In 1970 Nigel Olsson was temporarily the drummer for the band Uriah Heep .

Already at the beginning of Elton John's career, with the 1971 album Tumbleweed Connection , he was part of the band that accompanied John's most successful years with guitarist Davey Johnstone , bassist Dee Murray and percussionist Ray Cooper .

Between 1975 and 1980, Olsson was active as a studio musician and released several albums himself, albeit with moderate success. In 1979 he had two top 40 hits in the USA: Dancin 'Shoes reached number 18, Little Bit of Soap reached number 34 a few weeks later. Both titles were also top 10 successes on Billboard's adult contemporary charts .

From 1980 to 1984 he worked again with the original band of Elton John and was involved in the recording of five albums by Elton John and his tours. Since 2000 Nigel Olsson has been a permanent member of Elton John's band again, both in studio recordings and on tours.

On June 13th, 2009 Nigel Olsson played the 1,500 in Bristol / GB. Concert at the side of Elton John.

His trademarks are the gloves and headphones he wears during concerts.
