Niggi Schmassmann

Nicolas "Niggi" Schmassmann (born February 18, 1960 in Basel ) is a Swiss motorcycle racer .

Career

Schmassmann contested his first race in 1981. On the international level, he started in 1988 when he competed in the 500 cm³ class of the motorcycle world and European championships on a Honda . In the World Cup , he couldn't score any points in eleven races , and he finished 19th in the European Championship with 19 points. In the following year Schmassmann scored his first eight points in the world championship and was 28th overall. He finished the European Championship in tenth place.

The 1990 season was the most successful in Niggi Schmassmann's World Cup career. He consistently scored points in his six Grand Prix starts and was 19 overall with 23 points. and with ninth place at the Grand Prix of Yugoslavia in Rijeka achieved his best race result ever.

After finishing 24th in the World Championship with five points in 1991 and no points in the following year , meanwhile on the road with Harris- Yamaha , the Swiss man almost completely turned his back on the World Championship and concentrated on the German Championship , in which he won in 1993, 1995, 1996 and 1997 won the title in the half-liter class.

After Niggi Schmassmann took part in the Bol d'Or for the first time in 1987 , he switched to endurance racing in 1997 . In 1999 he finished ninth in the World Endurance Championship on Suzuki .

Schmassmann is married, has four sons and works as a mechanic .
