Niilo Wälläri

Niilo Frans Wälläri (born July 6, 1897 in Lieto , † August 25, 1967 in Helsinki ) was General Secretary of the Finnish Maritime Union and chairman of the Socialist Workers' Party of Finland .

Life

Niilo Wälläri was the firstborn son of Frans Wälläri († 1909) a tanner from Punkalaidun . In 1913 Wälläri hired on a ship and went ashore in the USA in 1916, where he was an activist for the Industrial Workers of the World and studied at Work People's College . In March 1919 he was taken into custody and after a few weeks released on bail until he was deported in October 1920.

From January 31, 1922 to March 31, 1922 and from April 1, 1922 to May 17, 1923 he was chairman of the Socialist Workers' Party of Finland. When they were banned, he was arrested.

From 1938 he was general secretary of the assertive Suomen Merimies-Unioni . In February 1942 he was ousted from the board of the umbrella organization of the trade unions Suomen Ammattiliittojen Keskusjärjestö SAK . In January 1966 he got the monopoly Alko to remove South African Cape Brandy from its range.
