Nikša Bareza

Nikša Bareza (born March 31, 1936 in Split ) is a Croatian musician and conductor. From 1965 to 1974 he was director at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb .

Life

Bareza studied composition and conducting at the Music Academy in Zagreb . He continued his studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. From 1959 to 1978 he was a conductor at the Croatian National Theater and then until 1981 conductor at the Zurich Opera House. Subsequently he was hired as chief conductor of the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra until 1990.

Bareza has worked as a guest conductor at almost all European opera houses, including his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1972 .
