Nikanor (Gandhara)
Nikanor ( Greek Νικάνωρ ; † 326 BC ) was a hetairos (companion) and governor of Alexander the great .
Nikanor was born in 327 BC. He was placed alongside the Persian Tyriespis as a military episkopos (overseer) in the area of the Parapamisades and replaced the previous incumbent Neiloxenos. At the same time he took over the office of hyparchos (civil administrator) of the city of Alexandria in the Caucasus . A little later Nikanor himself was appointed satrap of the "province west of the Indus" ( Gandhara ), where he was soon killed in an uprising by the Assakanians.
His province was taken over by Philip .
