Nikephorus I (Jerusalem)
Nikephorus I was the Greek patriarch of Jerusalem from 1020 to 1048 .
Nikephoros was of Greek origin and came from the Byzantine Empire. He was installed in the patriarchal office of the Fatimid caliph Al-Hākim . At the time of his appointment he was the builder of the fortresses for the caliph; before his capture by the Muslims he had been a clergyman. Immediately after being elected patriarch, he traveled to Alexandria to request a letter of protection from the caliph. He received this before the murder of Al-Hākim (February 13, 1021).
