Nikolai Alexandrovich Ivashintsov

Nikolai Alexandrovich Iwaschinzow ( Russian Николай Александрович Ивашинцов * April 19 . Jul / 1. May  1819 greg. In Saint Petersburg , † January 13 jul. / 25. January  1871 greg. ) Was a Russian hydrographer .

Nikolai Iwaschinzow, teacher of astronomy and nautical science with the Naval Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg, took part in the coastal survey of the Baltic Sea in the 1840s. In 1853 he accompanied Vasily Perowski on the train against Ak-Metschet .

In the same year, as head of the expedition, he began work on recording and exploring Lake Caspise, the results of which, an atlas with two volumes of text, published in St. Petersburg from 1866–1869.

His great work on 38 Russian journeys around the world was published in 1849/50. Most recently Rear Admiral and President of the Mathematical Section of the Geographical Society of St. Petersburg, he died on January 25, 1871.
