Nikolai Estis

Nikolai Estis (born August 8, 1937 in Moscow ) is a Russian-German artist.

Life

Estis was born on August 8, 1937 in Moscow to a Jewish family.

In 1954 he finished school in Chmilnyk and moved to Moscow to study art. In 1958 he obtained a diploma from the Moscow Artistic Graphic University. In the following two years he did military service in the Soviet Army .

From 1960 he took part in exhibitions in Moscow, the Soviet Union and internationally. In 1966 the first solo exhibition was opened in Moscow. Since then, over 70 solo exhibitions by the artist have taken place in Russia and other countries. Nikolai Estis has received many different grants and prizes.

The artist's works can be found in museums and private collections in many countries around the world, including the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow), the State Literature Museum (Moscow), the Estonia State Art Museum , the George Collection Costakis as well as the collection of the American Academy of Arts.

He is a member of the artists 'associations in Germany and Russia as well as the international artists' association. His name is entered in the "Jewish Encyclopedia" published in Russia and in the lexicon "Artists of all times and peoples" (Munich 2003).

Nikolai Estis has lived and worked in Hamburg and Moscow since 1996.

family

The artist's wife was the artist, sculptor and book illustrator Lydia Schulgina (1957–2000). His sons are the graphic artist and caricaturist Oleg Estis (1964–1999) and the writer Alexander Estis (* 1986). His daughter is the museum specialist Elena Estis (* 1958).
