Nikolai Kornhaß

Nikolai Kornhaß (born March 28, 1993 ) is a German disabled athlete .

Career

Nikolai Kornhaß comes from Augsburg . He suffers from a severe visual impairment , but still wanted to do sports. As a sport, he chose judo , which he could practice in the starting class B 2 and in the weight class up to 73 kg.

Because of his good athletic performance, he was soon accepted into the German national disabled sports team, with which he took part in international judo competitions. Since 2011 he has regularly participated in his performance group at the European Championships. Since the championships in 2015, he has won medals in all European competitions: a bronze medal in 2015 , a silver medal in 2017 and a gold medal in 2019.

He was also at the judo world championships in 2014 and 2018. While he only reached 9th place in 2014, he finished third and won a bronze medal in 2018. The sporting highlight was his participation in the 2016 Paralympic Summer Games . In the judo singles, weight class up to 73 kg, he came third and won a bronze medal. For winning the bronze medal at the Paralympic Summer Games 2016, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Joachim Gauck on November 1, 2016 .
