The blue-forehead leaf bird ( Chloropsis venusta ) is a species of bird from the family of leaf birds (Chloropseidae).

The bird is endemic to the Indonesian island of Sumatra . It is the smallest representative of the leaf birds and occurs in the highlands from Aceh south along the Barisan Mountains to Lampung .

The distribution area includes treetops from deep forest to mountain forest .

features

The bird is 14 cm tall. The male has a blue mask up to the crown of the head and throat, the ear covers and reins are aquamarine blue, the large patch on the chest is orange. Iris and beak are dark. The top is grass-green, the underside yellow-green, the slightly forked tail bluish with a gray underside. The female is pale blue, more turquoise, without a throat spot.

The species is monotypical.

Way of life

The diet consists of fruits , insects and eggs from arthropods . The breeding season is not known.

The stock is considered to be near threatened due to habitat loss.
