Nikolai Nikolajewitsch Andrejew ( Russian: Николай Николаевич Андреев ; born January 31, 1929 in Moscow ; † December 26, 2006 ibid) was a Soviet and Russian cryptographer .

Life

Andreev studied from 1951 at the Moscow Energy Institute . Immediately after graduating, he entered the KGB of the USSR . In 1953 he graduated from the higher cryptography school in the main administration of the special service (GUSS) in the central committee (ZK) of the CPSU .

He made a great contribution to the information security of the USSR, the development of cryptography and the cryptographic service. He was one of the founders of technical cryptography (electronic cryptanalysis) and was involved in the decoding of dozens of ciphers . From 1975 to 1991 he was the head of the 8th General Directorate of the KGB of the USSR (protection of technical means of communication and development of ciphers).

After the collapse of the USSR, he was one of the initiators of the creation of FAPS I. Since 1991, he was First Deputy Director General of FAPSI under the President of the Russian Federation. He resigned from the service in 1994.

From 1992 to 1998 he was President of the Academy of Cryptography of the Russian Federation. He is the author of a wide variety of unpublished, non-public scientific papers. He received orders and medals from the USSR and the Russian Federation.

Awards

Amdreev was awarded the Lenin Prize and is the recipient of the State Prize of the USSR .
