Nikolai Nikolayevich Blochin

Nikolai Nikolaevich Blokhin ( Russian Николай Николаевич Блохин , scientific. Transliteration Nikolaj Nikolajevic Blohin ; April * 21 ^{. Jul} / 4. May  1912 ^greg. In Lukoyanov , government Nizhny Novgorod , Russian Empire ; † 16th May 1993 in Moscow , Russian Federation ) was a Soviet specialist in surgical oncology . He has done significant work in the fields of traumatology , restitution surgery , plastic surgery , chemotherapy and radiation treatment of cancer . He received the title “ Hero of Socialist Labor ” (1972), the State Prize of the USSR (1982), four times the Order of Lenin , the Order of the October Revolution , the Order of the Red Labor Banner and the Order of the Red Star .

Life

Nikolai Blochin was born on May 4, 1912 in Lukoyanov into a family of doctors. In 1916 he moved to Nizhny Novgorod , where he spent his early childhood and school days. In 1929 he went to the medical faculty of the Nizhny Novgorod University (now Lobachevsky University Nizhny Novgorod ). After graduating, he worked at a rural hospital. Then worked as an assistant at the Bedside Surgery Institute of Gorky Medical College (now Nizhny Novgorod).

During the Second World War he was chief surgeon in the war hospitals in Gorky. At the same time Blochin studied the pharmacology of plastic surgery in depth. After the war he founded the Institute for Restitution Surgery. Shortly afterwards he headed the Gorki Medical School. Blochin moved to Moscow in 1952. There he brokered a tumor clinic that bears his name. From 1960 to 1968 and from 1977 to 1987 he was the President of the Soviet Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1979 he was elected an academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences. In May 1993 Blochin was buried in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery.
