Lukojanow ( Russian Лукоянов ) is a city in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast ( Russia ) with 14,951 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 170 km southeast of the oblast capital Nizhny Novgorod on the Tjoscha , a right tributary of the Oka, which flows into the Volga .
Lukoyanov is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
history
The place was founded in the 16th century by a certain Iwaschka Lukojanow, who built a mill here, and named after him.
From the middle of the 17th century the village belonged to the Russian tsarist court.
On September 5, 1779, the place received city rights as the administrative center of a district ( Ujesds ). In 1816 the city was seriously destroyed by fire.

Culture and sights
The town has a local museum in the Blochin family's wooden house from the 19th century.
Economy and Infrastructure
In Lukoyanov there are mechanical engineering and construction and building materials industries (e.g. refractory materials ).
The city lies on the railway line Rusajewka - Arsamas - Nizhny Novgorod, opened in 1903 . The trunk road 1R 158 Nizhny Novgorod – Arsamas – Saransk also runs through Lukoyanov .
