history

The place was first mentioned in 1712, when the resettlement village Rybnowskije pochinki , which is also on the territory of the present-day settlement, arose not far from the ukase of Tsar Peter the Great . Kovernino became the seat of a Volost , which initially belonged to the Ujesd Jurjewez of the Nizhny Novgorod governorate , from the 1770s to the Ujesd Makarjew of the Kostroma governorate (from 1796 Kostroma governorate ). From 1918 to 1922 the place was the administrative seat of a Ujesd and thus formally received city rights.

From 1922 Kovernino was again considered a village, now in Ujesd Semjonow of the Nizhny Novgorod governorate. On June 10, 1929, it became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. In 1961 Kovernino received urban-type settlement status.
